In 2023, only 23% of the 54.2 million people in the United States struggling with substance use disorders received the care they needed. At the same time, the country is facing an epidemic of loneliness, with 1 in 2 adults experiencing isolation. For many in need of recovery, this lack of connection makes healing seem out of reach.
The Recovery Café Network (RCN) is working to change that, one Café at a time. RCN equips groups of individuals and organizations with the training and resources to establish community-based recovery spaces, using the proven Recovery Café model.
Since 2023, the Network has grown from 65 to 77 Cafés across the U.S. and Canada. Together, we are building a compassionate and growing community, rooted in the belief that every person is precious and worthy of love.
Here’s an overview of our collective impact in 2024.
Across our 77 Recovery Cafés...
We have provided welcoming spaces for individuals who have experienced trauma, including homelessness, substance use disorders, addiction, and other mental health challenges. Through the Recovery Café model, our Network has made a tangible impact.
19,114 Recovery Circle Meetings
Recovery Circles are small, weekly peer-led groups of up to 10 people, where members share their recovery journeys, challenges, and successes. These groups foster emotional support, loving-accountability, and connection.
212,398 Recovery Visits
Each visit reflects an individual entering a Café’s healing space—whether a member or a volunteer—capturing daily engagement with the Café’s resources and programs.
10,375 Enrolled Members
Membership is open to those seeking a supportive recovery community and requires three agreements: being drug- and alcohol-free in Café spaces, participating in weekly Recovery Circles, and contributing to running the Cafe, collective care, and belonging.
228,310 Meals Served
Meals at Cafés are a benefit of membership–healthy, delicious, and shared in a welcoming community setting. Beyond nourishment, these meals create opportunities for members to build relationships and strengthen their recovery journey.
