Kevin Myles, from the Recovery Cafe Network, recently returned to Wichita from Atlanta to represent the Network at the Greater Wichita Ministerial League last Thursday. Local leaders, including LaVonta Williams and Councilman Brandon Johnson, attended the event.
During the presentation, Kevin and Carrie Corliss from the Wichita Recovery Hub discussed the potential partnership between the National Recovery Cafe Network and the Wichita Recovery Hub, as the Hub expands its programs and opens its own location.
The first year (2022-2023) for the Wichita Recovery Hub focused on the Design Phase, aiming to develop a plan for their programs. This phase involved defining goals, identifying target populations, outlining services and resources needed, and establishing evaluation metrics to measure the program's effectiveness.
Year Two marked the beginning of the Pilot Phase (2023-2024), where they commenced operations as a volunteer organization. They opened one evening weekly in a rent-free space, hosting support/accountability groups, workshops and classes, events and volunteer projects to help people connect, grow, and thrive in a safe drug and alcohol-free environment.
As they enter the Expansion Phase in 2025, the Wichita Recovery Hub will be joining the National Recovery Café Network to expand their services from one evening weekly to multiple evenings weekly in a new space. They are set to become the first Recovery Café Network Member in Kansas, with 72 Recovery Cafes already utilizing this model across the country.
Beyond 2025, the Wichita Recovery Hub plans to continue expanding support programs tailored to specific community needs, such as job training.
